Point Reyes Hostel welcomes new general manager

HI-USA Golden Gate Council is pleased to welcome Hanna Morris as the new general manager of the Point Reyes Hostel, while bidding a fond farewell to longtime manager Bob Baez.

Hanna joined the Golden Gate Council in 2002 as a Hostel Assistant at the Marin Headlands Hostel. In 2005 she was promoted to Deputy Manager, and was responsible for supervising five Hostel Assistants, handling group reservations, and purchasing, among other duties. In addition, she created new interpretive displays for the hostel, helped re-organize and beautify the facility, and was responsible for getting the hostel certified as a Bay Area Green Business.

Hanna has ambitious plans for her first year managing the Point Reyes Hostel, including expanding hostel access hours, increasing program offerings for youth and student groups, and certifying the hostel as a Bay Area Green Business.

On a personal note, Hanna is an avid outdoor enthusiast who enjoys hiking, mountain biking, and kayaking, as well as a visual artist whose work includes ceramics, painting, and photography. Next time you visit the Point Reyes Hostel, be sure to say hello!

At the same time, the Council is bidding a fond farewell to Bob Baez, who ably managed the Point Reyes Hostel for 26 years. Bob was well known for running the hostel in a friendly, gracious, and environmentally sustainable manner, and the guest comment cards were always filled with compliments about him.

"Bob will be missed by all the Council staff and the many guests who loved him," says Executive Director Barbara Wein. "But we are very excited to see Hanna take the next step in her career with us as the manager of the Point Reyes Hostel. Her previous hostel operations experience and her commitment to the hostelling mission and to environmental sustainability will ensure that Bob’s legacy is carried forward."
