Housed in historic lighthouse keepers' quarters, HI Pigeon Point Lighthouse is perched on a cliff above the Pacific, 50 miles south of San Francisco.

Guest Rooms

Our hostel is divided into four houses; each house includes a mix of shared rooms and private rooms.

Shared rooms are dormitory-style (meaning bunk beds), and sleep up to 6 people per room. Both co-ed and gender-specific rooms are available.

Private rooms have a double bed. Private rooms are very popular, so try to book far in advance, especially for weekend stays.

Common Areas

Each of our four houses has a comfortable common room, stocked with an assortment of games, books, and perhaps a piano. There are also three self-serve kitchens and dining areas, fully equipped with stoves, ovens, microwaves, coffeemakers, pots and pans, dishes, utensils, and ample refrigerator/freezer space. We offer free WiFi, as well as internet terminals for rent.

An outdoor patio (with picnic tables and barbecue) runs along the peninsula, and near the point there's a fire pit and Adirondack chairs. Also at the point is our most famous feature -- a clifftop hot tub above the Pacific, open only to hostel guests. From there, a boardwalk runs along the bluff (offering the best vista points) and a short trail leads to the small, cove beach at Whaler's Point.

The historic fog signal building houses maritime exhibits, including the lighthouse's original first-order Fresnel lens. The hostel and grounds are part of a California State Historic Park, and the exhibits as well as docent-led historic tours are available Friday - Monday, weather permitting.
