Our Seal Friends Adopted from the Marine Mammal Center
You know how when you see a cute baby seal in pictures or in real life you wish you could just pick it up and take it home? Since you can’t actually do that, we did the next best thing, which was to adopt two young Pacific Harbor seals from the Marine Mammal Center.

10 Travel Resolutions for the New Year
As another year comes to an end, we all start thinking about the 12 months ahead and how we can try make them a little better than the ones before. And if your resolutions for the coming year include more travel, we’ve got some suggestions you can take on the road. So, never mind about eating less gluten or calling your parents more (although, on second thought, maybe you should call your parents more). Instead, let’s usher in the new year with set of resolutions you can stick to. We hope they enrich your experiences and open you up to new adventures and new friends!

Spend the Holidays with HI USA
Tis the season for much merrymaking and festivity and we think that there’s no better place to be than at one of our hostels. While being away from home at this time of the year can get a little lonely, it can also be extra special when you come together with fellow travelers and form a temporary family to celebrate with. Whether it’s in the heart of a major city, or far out in the country with only the stars for Christmas lights, you’ll be able to get into the spirit of things at some great events both big and small hosted at our hostels.

Isn’t it magical to think that while you’re standing on the shore of a beach, gazing at the blanket of ocean, there is an entire world just underneath the surface, a world that’s home to one of the biggest creatures that has ever lived? And while we hardly ever see them from the shore, there’s a special time of the year – every winter and spring – when the Pacific coast becomes a highway for the great grey whale migration and land-dwellers get to spy these enigmatic animals.

A Volunteer Guide for Visitors and Locals
The more and more we travel the more our eyes are opened to the realities of the world and our responsibilities as global citizens. As we interact with people and explore different environments, it’s difficult not to want to help make the world a better place, and increasingly for a lot of travelers, volunteering while vacationing has become an essential part of the itinerary. “Voluntourism” – as this type of traveling has become known – is not an entirely new concept, but it’s picked up over the years and has become an industry in its own right.
