Eureka! The Sacramento Hostel now has new private rooms inspired by California's Gold Rush history.

Hang your hat in The Argonaut, one of the mansion's large original bedrooms, with two full-size beds and an east-facing bay window that overlooks the courtyard and the fountain. "Argonaut" was a term used to describe the pioneers who traveled to California on a quest for gold. The name references a band of heroes in Greek mythology who went on a quest for the Golden Fleece.

Modern California holds sprawling metropolitan areas, the biggest population of all the United States, and the eighth largest economy in the world. But prior to the mid-1800s, California was a land of sleepy settlements. Now densely populated, San Francisco had only 459 residents in 1847. Everything changed when gold was discovered east of Sacramento in 1848, and the rush of gold prospectors that followed gave rise to California as we know it today.

Greyhound, the United States' largest long-distance bus line, has recently expanded its new premium, non-stop service to the West Coast. On May 2, Greyhound Express was introduced in California ahead of the summer travel season. This new service can get you from Los Angeles to San Francisco via Oakland or San Jose, and from Los Angeles to Sacramento via various locations in California’s Central Valley region.
