Dramatically perched on the western edge of San Francisco, where the city meets the Pacific, stands the Cliff House. Over the course of its existence, the Cliff House has endured fires, earthquakes, and the coastal elements to remain a San Francisco landmark, and this year, special events will be held to commemorate the 150th anniversary of this long-lasting icon.

Thousands of volunteers across California will pick up reusable buckets and comb the state's beaches for trash on Saturday, September 15. And this year, the Marin Headlands Hostel is sponsoring Black Sands Beach for the 28th annual California Coastal Cleanup.

In 1962, President John F. Kennedy signed legislation that created the Point Reyes National Seashore. Fifty years later, Point Reyes is a beloved National Park that is visited by millions of people from all over the world. On Saturday, September 8, the park celebrates its 50th anniversary with a reception and oak-planting ceremony at the Bear Valley Visitor Center.

Free public art abounds in San Francisco, but one new piece that's a cut above the rest is an aerial dance and multimedia production entitled Niagara Falling. From September 26-29, aerial dancers will be suspended from the side of a historic downtown building, performing amidst images of San Francisco and Niagara Falls.

The City of San Francisco has a lot to celebrate this summer. In addition to the 75th anniversary of the Golden Gate Bridge, San Francisco's longest running music festival is also commemorating its 75th year. Since 1938, the Stern Grove Festival has presented a wide variety of local and international performing artists in the idyllic setting of Sigmund Stern Grove, a natural amphitheater surrounded by eucalyptus trees.
