So you’ve decided to visit San Francisco – ride a trolley, eat a giant burrito, see the Golden Gate Bridge – and you’re wondering what else you can do after ticking off those big bucket list items. The right answer is to go across the famous bridge and spend a night or two at HI Marin Headlands hostel, which sits pretty within the Golden Gate National Recreation Area.

If you’re beginning to curse the magical mist of San Francisco, we understand. This is California, people. Sheesh! Where’s the sunshine? We know our fairytale fog can start to feel comedic or even tragic after a while. So if you’re getting a hankering for heat, we suggest you head over to the East Bay for a hike in the sun. The year 2016 will mark the 100th anniversary of the National Parks Service (NPS), and though we're still a couple years away from the centennial our friends at the NPS are already excited! As a lead-up to the organization's big birthday, our friends from the Golden Gate National Recreation Area (GGNRA) have put together a list of 101 Ways to Recreate in the Golden Gate. And we liked their list so much, we decided to put together our own!
